Sunday, August 1, our message is “Yearning for the Way.” When we find that uncertainty is our natural human state, that ambivalence is our birthright, life becomes even more awesome. We can see that our unfolding is truly remarkable and our decisions and actions are what make that process possible.
Certainty is seductive. Our culture rewards knowing and makes not-knowing a liability; but about the important things in life, the opposite may be true. ~ Rabbi Irwin Kula
Yearnings: Embracing the Sacred Messiness of Life by Rabbi Irwin Kula, is available in the Unity Book Nook for $13.99 (plus tax.)
Share the Wealth! Every day in the Miami Valley men, women, and children go hungry. But you can help—and it’s so easy! Just bring in one can of non-perishable food per person each Sunday, and deposit it in the large barrel in the lobby. Once the barrel is full, we’ll take the donations to the food pantry. Will you help us make a difference?
Join us after the service August 1 for a YOU Lunch and a Movie. A delicious light lunch served by our Youth of Unity followed by the uplifting and entertaining movie “The Shift,” featuring Dr. Wayne Dyer.
In this compelling film, Dr. Dyer explores the spiritual journey from ambition to meaning. The powerful shift from the ego constructs we are taught early in life by parents and society - which promote an emphasis on achievement and accumulation - are shown in contrast to a life of meaning, focused on serving and giving back. Through the intertwined stories of an overachieving businessman, a mother of two seeking her own expression in the world, and a director trying to make a name for himself, this entertaining film not only inspires, but also teaches us how to create a life of meaning and purpose. Suggested love offering for lunch and a movie is $10 per person and will benefit Youth of Unity programs. If you need nursery care for this event, please see Liesa Chase.
